Meet Owen
Owen Akeley (he/him)
Clinician
Owen is a clinician with a deep commitment to affirming the lived experience of his clients and who centers authentic curiosity both inside and outside the therapy room.
Using an eclectic, strengths-based approach, Owen integrates aspects of Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, CBT, DBT, Psychodynamic therapy, and much more in his work. He actively collaborates with his clients to shape the therapeutic process, prioritizing transparency and honesty his approach to tackle a wide range of personal struggles, including anxiety, depression, burnout, overwhelm, relationships, spiritual struggles, life transitions of all shapes and sizes, and so much more.
Owen entered this work after a decade-long career in alternative education, which brought him from urban Tennessee to suburban Massachusetts all the way to rural KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Across these experiences, he honed his skills in working with communities, couples, and individuals with complex, intersectional needs and focused on specializations with both LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent populations.
Outside of his therapy practice, Owen is a professional musician, avid surfer, lapsed yoga teacher, and an active member of the Boston Strikers Soccer Club, a nonprofit for queer and gender nonconforming athletes. When not moving his body, you can find him reading, knitting, or doing his daily crossword puzzle.
Owen received his BA in English from Vanderbilt University and his MSW from Boston University. He works with clients and couples across the life span.
